Haysi Facility Release Outcomes
A person can leave a Haysi booking after bond, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, or another lawful release. Departure may also mean a move within SWVRJA, transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections, delivery to another jail, or transfer under a federal or immigration hold. These paths all end the displayed booking in some fashion, yet only some return the person to the community.
The Release Date and Facility fields work together. Facility connects the record to Haysi. Release Date marks when JailTracker recorded the end of that booking. Expanded case and hold information can add a reason or identify another authority, but fields may be blank. If the result does not state the destination, the safe description is that SWVRJA recorded departure from the Haysi booking. Ask the jail or request the final transaction before stating that all custody ended.
Run a Haysi Release Search
The official SWVRJA gateway links to one JailTracker for Abingdon, Duffield, Haysi, and Tazewell. Open the application and select Released. The stable source does not offer a separate Haysi-only URL. That is why the Facility column must be checked on every match.
Use a focused process:
- Choose Released instead of Current and enter a day range that covers the expected event.
- Search the person's full name, then test a known variant only if the first spelling fails.
- Require Haysi in Facility and compare the Book Date, Release Date, Booking Number, and Jacket.
- Open the record and read all populated cases, charges, bond, sentence, court, arresting-agency, and hold fields.
- Check Current mode and other systems if a hold or transfer appears likely.
- Contact Haysi or submit a record request when the destination remains unstated.
A one-day query helps with a recent event, while a three-day query can catch a wider interval. SWVRJA has not published a fixed update cadence or a maximum public retention period. A no-result can reflect spelling, timing, a different site, older history, or another system. It is not proof of release.
Note: Match at least two identifiers because a name-only search can join the wrong person to the wrong custody episode.
Verify Haysi Release Notices
Virginia Jail VINE adds notification, not a complete release archive. SWVRJA's program allows an online or telephone custody search and can provide phone or email notices. Register on the exact matching record. Resolve similar names with an agency ID, facility, or other identifier. A VINE notice can show that the custody status changed, but official guidance warns that release or transfer language may accompany movement to another jail or VADOC.
Jail VINE registration ends with that jail custody episode and does not automatically migrate into VADOC VINE. If the Haysi departure leads to state authority, search the VADOC public locator and follow the separate notification rules if eligible. This is especially important when the local notice stops updating after a transfer. Silence from the original registration does not prove that the person is free of all custody.
| Source | What it can show | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| JailTracker | Booking, Release Date, Facility, cases, and holds when populated | Departure may be a transfer |
| Virginia Jail VINE | Status, location, and a reported custody event | Notification wording needs confirmation |
| VADOC locator | State custody or current community supervision | Not a permanent archive of full discharge |
| Washington court | Charge, bond, disposition, sentence, and hearing history | Not a physical-custody log |
Each record answers its own question. A strong account does not force one source to prove facts controlled by another office.
Haysi Releases Need Site Matching
Haysi's role is easy to miss in a county-focused search. It is not located in Washington County, yet it belongs to the same regional operator as the county-located Abingdon Facility. The physical site therefore must be matched with the Washington arresting agency or court case. Jurisdiction tells where the legal matter proceeds. Facility tells where SWVRJA housed the displayed booking.
A person can move from Haysi to Abingdon, Duffield, or Tazewell without entering the community. Search both Current and Released modes when the timeline appears incomplete. If a new site appears, call that facility with the prior booking identifiers. Staff may not discuss every detail, but a direct question about whether custody transferred can help identify the proper records holder.
- Booking
- The specific jail custody episode tied to a book date and identifiers.
- Released mode
- The JailTracker view for bookings recorded as ended within the chosen interval.
- Receiving authority
- The jail, prison, or agency that accepts custody after transfer.
- Community release
- Departure without another custodian taking physical control.
Note: A Washington court case can remain active while the person is housed at Haysi or released under court-set conditions.
Trace Haysi Transfer Destinations
For a possible state transfer, use the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator. Search by seven-digit DOC ID when available. Otherwise use first and last name and narrow with the offered filters. An institutional or jail-under-authority result indicates continuing VADOC custody. A district-office result indicates current community supervision, which supports release from confinement but does not supply the exact Haysi departure transaction.
Federal custody has separate routes. The Bureau of Prisons locator fits a sentenced federal person and can show a Release Date and Location. A BOP status of RELEASED means no longer in BOP custody, not free of all state, immigration, or supervision duties. Federal pretrial detention may remain with the U.S. Marshals Service, which has no comparable public historical locator. ICE maintains its own detainee search and a short post-release window. Use those tools only when the case or hold supports that jurisdiction.
Court records explain authority. A dismissal, bond order, time-served sentence, or final judgment may show why release was allowed. It does not prove that Haysi completed processing or cleared another agency's hold. Preserve both facts when sources differ.
Haysi Release Contact Card
The facility's direct line is the best source for Haysi-specific logistics missing from the public pages. Provide the full name, Booking Number or Jacket, approximate dates, and Washington arresting agency or case when known. Ask whether the displayed booking ended and whether the recorded result was community release or transfer.

No official Haysi release time, exit point, family waiting area, property-return procedure, weekend rule, transport plan, or local release fee was found. Confirm current instructions with the facility before pickup or travel. Do not borrow an arrangement from Abingdon or another regional site.
Obtain Haysi Release Records
When public results lack the needed detail, use the authority's FOIA page. The successful manifest capture below shows the official records source.
The linked page identifies the authority-wide officer and request materials, which cover the Haysi booking rather than a separate county records office.
Send a reasonably specific request to FOIA Officer Melissa White, P.O. Box 279, Meadowview, VA 24361; mmwhite@swvrja.com; 276-739-3520; fax 276-739-3534. Identify the person, date of birth if known, booking or jacket number, approximate book and release dates, arresting agency, and case. Ask for the booking sheet and final release transaction showing date, time, recorded type, destination or receiving authority, and hold disposition, to the extent those fields exist. The adult initial-intake photograph can be named separately.
Virginia FOIA generally sets a five-working-day response process, not a promise of all records in five calendar days. Lawful outcomes include production, partial production with cited withholding, a no-record response, referral, or a written extension. Actual and reasonable search and copy costs may apply. Ask for an estimate; a deposit may be required when expected charges exceed $200.
Confirm Haysi Community Release
Use measured wording that matches the evidence. A Haysi released result with compatible identifiers and a Release Date supports the end of that booking. A receiving-authority field or custodian confirmation separates transfer from community release. The Washington County release-record overview supplies the wider sequence for court, VINE, VADOC, BOP, ICE, and formal records when a custody trail crosses systems.
Haysi is a regional site serving regional cases. That fact explains why a Washington County search may lead outside county lines. It also makes Facility and Holds essential fields, not minor details. Verify both before describing where the person went.
